Happy Earth Day

April 22, 2023 / A letter to WorkJam Employees (and everyone else)

Dear WorkJammers,

To highlight Earth Day 2023 on April 22, 2023, we thought it’d be a great idea to remind everyone that every day should be earth day. We love our planet and want to keep it cool as long as possible!

Since all actions count, we wanted to share some ideas (big and small) that you can implement in your everyday life to have an impact. Speaking of actions, WorkJam has donated to Earth Day Canada to  have 106 trees planted on behalf of the 106 WorkJammers that joined us in 2022!

Unplug appliances and electronics that are turned off

Even when not in use, electronics use power. Save energy (and money) by unplugging them! According to this Save on energy’s article, the average home has dozens of plugged-in items at any given time. 75% of the electricity consumed by these devices is used when they are not even turned on. Save your resources and unplug them.

Make your own cleaning supplies

Save plastic and reuse the same bottle repeatedly by making your own cleaning potion. You probably already have the ingredients at home: baking soda, lemon, and white vinegar. Here are a few recipes to get you started: Click to learn more.

Donate furniture and objects you don’t want anymore

Donate furniture or objects that you’re outgrowing on platforms like Marketplace or Kijiji. For those that are more adventurous and craftier, here are 10 ways to give a new life to your old furniture: Click to learn more.

Save your plants

The plants industry is a very polluting one, especially if we keep buying plants because we kill them (oops!). Green thumb or not, succulent plants do not require a lot of attention and are hard to kill. If you want to buy a new plant, here are great options for you: Snake Plant, ZZ Plant, Pothos or Yucca Plant.

Buy fruits and veggies that are in season

You’ll help reduce your environmental impact on transportation and you contribute to your local economy by supporting your local farmers.

Buy good quality clothes

No more fast fashion! Instead of buying clothes that will last a season, invest in quality products that you will love for a long time. You can also support local companies that adhere to sustainable and ethical fashion. The planet will thank you for it!

Plan a sustainable trip

Everyone loves to travel. Are you planning your next trip? Pick a destination that advocates the well-being of our planet! Here are 10 of the most sustainable travel destinations: Click to learn more.

Pick up trash on your next walk

Reach out to your neighbours, friends and family, and organize a cleanup! Gather everyone and pick up the trash in your neighbourhood during a walk on a sunny day. All you need are gloves and bags – easy!

Host a sustainable party

Are you thinking of hosting a dinner party or a kid’s birthday? Before shopping for accessories and decoration, think about how you can get rid of single-use items and plastic waste. Here are great tips on how to host an eco-friendly party: Click to learn more.

Become vegetarian

Did you know that the process of creating meat produces more carbon dioxide in a year than planes, trains and cars? This is why eating less meat is a great way to make a big impact. If being a full-time vegetarian is too much of a challenge, try Meatless Mondays: Click to learn more.
